When we write, we sometimes do not know when to capitalize the letter. In this article lesson, we will cover the rules on when we capitalize a letter.

The capital letter, is also called the big letter, or upper-case, or sometimes, just a capital.

 

When do we use a capital letter?

 

# The first letter in a sentence.

   The cat is sitting on the fence.

   Children are playing on the street.

 

# Always use the capital letter for the word “I”

   I am a tall girl.

   I ate a sandwich this morning.

   I am 15 years old.

 

# For names of people.

   Hazel, Rick, Tom, Sam, Eric, Ariel.

 

# For names of places

   Zoo, America, Africa, Texas, Los Angeles

 

# For festivals, holidays, days of the week, months of the year:

   Rio, Christmas, New Year’s Day, Monday, December.
